Urbex Nederland

In march 2011 we (Ger010 and heeftmeer) started a new forum on the internet about urban exploring. After years of posting on great forums like EarthView, Urbexpain, Direlictplaces and vergesseneorte, I missed some things in the forumworld. The key was working together in groups and working together with other forums. Its still growing to one of the most important forums for urbex (thats what Financieele Dagblad wrote in an article about us) and with 30000 visits a month they can't go round us anymore.

Many thanks to Ger010, Calke and Danny for their support. The forum can't run without their daily moderating. http://www.urbexnederland.nl

Bunker meeting

I couldn't sleep very well that night before the 6th of november. Like a boy going on summerschool.
Five o'clock, time to wakeup.
Calke and Marleen came to Groningen the day before. We had planned a mini meeting with our german members CmrdCord, Nic and j0nas. We should be there at eight, but we where just outside of Groningen and big fog was comming up. I lost some parts of the trip. I think I was sleeping partly. Where normaly the speed was over the 130, it was now around 80. It was around eight when we arrived at the pont that had to take us over the river near the bunker and a quater of an hour later we arrived at the bunker.

Location:
"Valentin" along the river Weser in a place called Farge, about 25km downstream of the city of Bremen, Germany

History:
In October 1943 the Organisation Todt stared to build the U-Bootbunkerwerft "Valentin" in a small place called Farge, 25km north of Bremen. A total of 14 type XXI U-Boots should be assembled in this bunker. The separate hulls were also produced in special bunkers by the Deutsche Schiffs- und Maschinenbau AG (Deschimag), Werk Weser AG (U-Bootbunkerwerft "Hornisse", Bremen) and the Blohm en Voss AG (U-Bootbunkerwerft "Wespe", Hamburg).

"Valentin" was build under the supervision of the Organisation Todt, Einsatzgruppe Hansa. For the building large amounts of forced laborers were used. They sat in camps in the area around the building site. The circumstances in these camps were very bad. Very notorious was the Arbeitserziehungslager Farge on the Rekumer Heide.
About 10000 forced laborers, POW's and concentrationcamp prisoners worked on the bunker building site. About 4000 people lost their lives

At the end of the war, about 90% of "Valentin" was completed. De building site was bombed several times. On March 27th, 1945 suffered it;s most heavy attack. A number of British Lancasters bombed the bunker with Tallboy en Grand Slam bombs.

After the was the bunker was used by the English and American to test bombs. In the summer 1965 the front part became a deport for the German navy

"Valentin" in figures:

Dimensions 426,25m x 97,65m x 422,27m. Roof thickness 7,12m, wall thickness van 4,57m
Surface van 50000m2.
Capacity 560000m3
220000 ton cement used
27000 ton steel used
Total costs 120 million Reichsmark

The others allready looked around the place and didn't find an entrance yet. Together we went on searching. There was one part of the fence witch gave a possibility and within a few minutes we all where at the inside of the fence. Now the entrance to the bunker. We had to hurry up because one part of the bunker is a museum and the first people could come around eleven. After a while we saw a little hole.(Photo Calke and Andre)

One problem. This was not wide enough for all of us. Three of us made it to come inside. This was worth it for the ones who came in. It looks like an enormous cave. There was a little lake inside with clear water. On the bottum of the lake we saw an old nazi helmet. After an hour we went on to the next location. The weather was terrible but the mood was ten times better. Look here for the movie of the hole.
